Road Trip With Rach: Eldorado Suites Hotel in Bisbee, Arizona

Print Friendly, PDF & Email

Originally built in 1914, the Eldorado Suites Hotel in Bisbee was first known as the Brooks Apartments. It was THE upscale place to live in those bustling Bisbee times when the popular Arizona mining town was growing rapidly in its heyday.  Today this mother-daughter owned hotel marries old world charm with remodeled suites giving Bisbee guests the best of both worlds. And the location couldn’t be better.

With spacious apartment-like suites, guests get comfortable quickly. Ready to explore? Simply venture out the front door to OK street to take an easy five-minute walk to downtown Bisbee. Relaxing strolls to restaurants, shops and art galleries are the name of the game in this eclectic town. Surrounded by the lovely Mule Mountains in this pleasant southeastern part of Arizona, the Eldorado gives hotel guests terrific views from the property’s vast 3-story balconies.

Looking for some action and excitement? Tourists can partake in amusing activities like an evening ghost walk with a spiritual guide or an underground mine tour led by an old timer original miner.  Both memorable experiences are just a few walking steps away from the Eldorado. This road trippin’ gal went underground to the mine and above ground in search of the spirits. I enjoyed and highly recommend both activities. The informative hotel website includes a helpful Bisbee attractions page with booking links to boot.

Like so many notable structures in Bisbee, this building has an interesting story. Members of the family that built this apartment style dwelling lived and thrived here from 1914 until the 1978 death of the Brooks family matriarch, Pearl Kemp Brooks. Her surviving great grandson still stays at the former family home every time he visits Bisbee.

Although remodeled in 2006, the look has stayed strikingly similar as is apparent in this historic photo that appears on the hotel’s website. Guests can go back in time but in the comfort of the remodeled suites.

Woman owned since 1919, the tradition continues with the 2015 sale of the property to mother and daughter duo, Lisa and Searra Head. They have done a good job ensuring that the scenic hotel offers nicely appointed 2-bedroom suites in all 12 units. A quick click to the user-friendly website gives a good view of each individual suite. Here is my video of the suite we booked, #8, as it appeared at our check-in…

Although the Eldorado is short on frills with no restaurant on site, guests can cook their own meals in the fully equipped kitchen. With some of the best views in town and the easy access to a nice variety of delicious restaurants, I did not miss the extras that other neighboring hotels offer.
And in fact, at the end of each busy Bisbee day, we were thrilled to retreat to our cozy Eldorado suite living room. As we took our places in the inviting sitting room, we wholeheartedly agreed that there was nowhere else we would rather be than Bisbee enjoying the hospitality and history of the enticing Eldorado Suites Hotel.
